In a pyramidal windmill (or pyramill), one half of the longest word forms the baseword for a pyramid, and its other half forms the baseword for an inverted pyramid. In addition, a word will be formed on the long diagonal of the form; this word will always read from left to right.

In the truncated version, the diagonal word starts at the first letter of the leftmost two-letter across word, goes up or down the diagonal as appropriate, and ends at the second letter of the rightmost two-letter across word. In the examples below, the diagonal entries are TENT DRESSES and PETE SAMPRAS.
