A word or phrase is divided into a series of shorter words or phrases by taking letters in order from the original word—one from the front, then one from the back, then one from the front, and so on. Enumerations for the shorter words are not given. Examples: lecture; leer, cut; or zuppa inglese; Zeus, pepla, gin. The convergence was invented by Lunch.
