Head-to-tail shift

A word or phrase becomes another when its first letter is moved to its end. Examples: emanate, manatee; brand, R and B; and holds out, Old South.
In a reversed head-to-tail shift, a word or phrase becomes another when its first letter is moved to its end, and then the whole is reversed. Example: flatcar, fractal.
In a phonetic head-to-tail shift, a word or phrase becomes another when its first sound is moved to its end. Example: ciao, ouch.
A head-to-tail shift is a special case of a letter shift.
